Welcome to showmeyournola’s 4th annual My Fave {Louisiana} Things! I started MFT in 2014 as a way to share some gifting ideas and to promote shopping local, which fortunately, New Orleanians are ALL about. It’s my passion to showcase makers and their beautiful/cool products!
Creative Makers are the heartbeat of any community. The pride and joy. The ones who inspire and create. When you buy from a local maker, you not only support your community, you give them a confirmation that they are, in fact, on the right path. Following your dream and answering to your true calling takes real courage. Let’s send them a giant hug and “keep up the great work” by purchasing our local maker’s work!

Last year was the first year I broadened it to feature makers from across the state and this year is no different. All of these products are either made or designed in Louisiana!

I had a realization today…one that I’ve kind of always known but it became very clear today. I am very nostalgic. When I first saw this poster in Home Malone, I immediately had to have it. I didn’t even know who it would be for at the time, but I bought it nonetheless. I absolutely LOVE the idea of a kid growing up and learning about New Orleans through this poster. Words like “Barkus,” “Jazz Fest Shirt” and “Stompers” would only make sense to a New Orleanian (or one at heart). Oh and I’ve since bought a second one for a friend’s new baby!

If you’ve read my recent post about my health journey this year, then you know I’ve been on an elimination diet, and one of the things I had to eliminate was coffee (ugh!) But I must say, I have found a new love of alternative hot drinks, especially matcha. Take if from me, making your own matcha latte is tricky, time-consuming and expensive. That’s why I love these pre-mixed blends! All you do is grab a scoop and add hot water or milk. We love to entertain, and no matter how many I own, I never seem to have enough serve-worthy cheese boards! Osa’s soup bowls combine my love of pottery, soup and Earth tones. I’m a soup person year round, but a hot bowl of soup in the winter is THE best. If you ask me, soup bowls are a marvelous creation. In fact, I think all soup should be served in bowls that have handles. Now that I think about it, I’d probably use these for cereal, ice cream, smoothies, hot chocolate and coffee (for those days you need an extra large one!)

If you ask me, giving and receiving hand-written cards brings a very unique joy that can only come from someone taking the time and effort to write and send one. Sadly, it’s becoming a tradition of the past, but this only makes it that much more special when your loved ones receive one.
I’ll leave you with my best advice on gift giving. Remember that the best way to shop for a good friend is to buy them what you are drawn to for yourself. If you love it, they will most likely love it too!
